World Sleep Day is an annual event, intended to be a celebration of sleep and call to action on important issues related to sleep. As Westin Hotels & Resorts remains dedicated to the well-being of our guests, including their sleep health, we use World Sleep Day each year as an opportunity to tout the benefits of a restful night’s slumber and showcase how we can enhance the sleep experience for our guests.
Our always-on world has produced a growing online trend that threatens to diminish our sense of well-being: the Fear of Missing Out (FOMO). To combat this hazard to our wellness, trendsetters across social media have rallied behind the anti-FOMO: JOMO, or the Joy of Missing Out. JOMO is about disconnecting, opting out, and being okay just where you are. It is also about taking a mental break from our persistent digital habits – which include constantly checking emails and social media timelines – to simply enjoy the moment, focus on well-being, and connect with ourselves.
Recognizing the power of JOMO to reclaim your well-being routine, Westin is committed to make it easy for travelers to take time back for themselves: embracing sleep rituals, having a slower start to your morning or sweating it out in our fitness studios or with our run concierges. We understand how travel experiences can help our guests disconnect and unwind, and to facilitate that idea, we are giving away 250 Marriott Bonvoy Points automatically to our members who share an image on Instagram of how they like to embrace JOMO, using the #WestinJOMO hashtag and tagging @Westin. This limited-time giveaway will run from Tuesday, March 5 through Thursday, March 14.
Then on World Sleep Day, Friday, March 15, we’re starting a movement to embrace JOMO. We’re encouraging our followers to check out of social media and check in to their well-being. To set an example, the Westin brand and property channels will go dark on Friday, March 15 in celebration of JOMO. If you care to join us, share our JOMO pledge badge on your own social channels, and take the vow to sign off and enjoy life...whether you use your new-found “me-time” to sneak in a few minutes of extra sleep is up to you.
